Abstract
We evaluated the combination test of three antibodies to EBV recombinant antigens(EBV -IgM, EA-IgG, NA-IgG).
Of 29 normal adults and 14 normal children, patterns representing previous infection[EBV -IgM (- ), EA-IgG (+ or, - ), NA-IgG (+) ] were observed in 24(83%), and 5(36%), respectively. Patterns representing acute reactivation(+/-/+) were observed in 5(12%) of 43 normal groups.
Of 14 patients, clinically suspecting EBV infection, EBV-IgM were positive in 7(50%). Of these 7 patients, 4 were diagnosed as suffering acute reactivation (+/-/+) and 3 were diagnosed as having typical or early stage of primary infection (+/+ or, -/-).
In conclusion, these findings indicate that the serological patterns using 3 antibody panel tests above mentioned, would be more useful to evaluate the EBV infection than using only one antibody test.
